Kennedy Reed has led a distinguished career as a physicist with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) since 1979. He has created an extensive portfolio of work broadening the participation of women and minorities in STEM disciplines. He has established a program with national impact, which brings together LLNL scientists, faculty from Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) and other minority-serving institutions (MI). The LLNL/HBCU/MI Program has produced more than 30 scientific publications co-authored by LLNL scientists and HBCU/MI faculty and students. Dr. Reed has helped more than 100 minority students receive their doctorate. Working through the National Physical Science Consortium Fellows program, Reed has helped more than 300 students receive graduate fellowships.
