This Presidential Award is a celebration of the hard work and success of the students I met, mentored, and advised in my academic career so far! These students have been my inspiration and collaborators in breaking the boundaries of traditional transportation technologies. The recognition is a mandate to continue and expand my work and collaborate with diverse students to lead the United States globally on technology frontiers!

Mashrur Chowdhury is the Eugene Douglas Mays Chair of Transportation in the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering at Clemson University. He has been a faculty member at Clemson University since August 2004. He also serves as the Director of the Center for Connected Multimodal Mobility (C2M2). Before joining Clemson University, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Dayton between August 2000 to May 2004. Mashrur has mentored students at Benedict College and South Carolina State University, both HBCUs, in collaboration with their faculty and administrators. He focuses on preparing these HBCU students for careers in computerized transportation systems. He also engages undergraduate and graduate students in advanced transportation technology research through the C2M2 Quantum Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab he founded. Mashrur believes in a broad cyber-physical-social systems (CPSS) training framework, allowing students to develop multidisciplinary knowledge that cannot be gained within the boundaries of traditional science or engineering disciplines. His goal is to inspire students to become leaders in Transportation CPSS-focused cybersecurity, quantum computing, and AI innovations. Mashrur earned a B.S. from Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Chittagong, an M.S. from Morgan State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. His awards include the Institute of Transportation Engineers Wilbur Smith Distinguished Educator Award and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) ITS Institutional Lead Award received with the C2M2 center he directs. He has also received the Frank A. Burtner Excellence in Advising Award, Faculty Mentoring Award, and the Murray Stokeley Award for Excellence in Teaching from Clemson University.
